Up goes the Tree :)

Creating a winter wonderland in my living room.

I am a “Christmas nut”, as many of my co-workers and friends call me. In late September I begin counting down the days until my favorite time of year. In October I began playing Christmas music in my office on Pandora. I love everything the Christmas season – the songs, the weather, the spirit, the scents, the atmosphere…everything.

After arriving home from work Monday night, I decided that I was going to decorate earlier than ever. So I put on some Christmas music, went across the street to get me a peppermint mocha, and pulled all of my Christmas décor out of the garage. I stayed up into the wee hours of the night decorating my house from top to bottom.  Tis the season!!

When do you usually decorate for Christmas?

  1. That is so sweet! :) I love how excited you are for the holidays. I usually start decorating around the beginning of December once the Thanksgiving madness and travel is over!

  6. Wow looks lovely. I can't wait to decorate my Christmas tree.

  7. You're so cute, Keith! I tend to wait until the first week of December and I don't really decorate that much. What I love to do is fill a large, clear vase with shiny, coloured round ornaments. Makes for a festive center piece on any table.

  8. In Canada our Thanksgiving is in mid October. My mom's rule for Christmas was that we couldn't listen to Christmas music until after the Santa Claus Parade in mid November. After that, the wreath would go on the door and Christmas mugs and placemats would come out. We'd always cut down our tree and decorate it on the first weekend of December. That's when Christmas really started gaining momentum in our house.

  9. Love your Christmas spirit! I would put my tree up now, too, but I have to host Thanksgiving this year, so I will wait until after. I love sitting in my darkened living room with nothing but the Christmas lights on the tree sparkling, and sipping hot cocoa. With marshmallows. And a peppermint stick. Your living room looks wonderful.

  10. I didn't think anyone (except my mom) was more into Christmas than I am, but you may have me beat! I love that you've got your tree up, and it looks fantastic. Just like you, I'm either always looking forward to or nostalgic for everything about Christmas - it could be Christmas year round and I'm pretty sure I'd never get tired of it. And you have me craving a peppermint mocha now. :)

  11. Keith,

Your Blog photo just brings such a really wonderful feelgood feeling. Thank you so much for bringing all that is so special about the Christmas season, into my heart, even a few weeks early:)
I have already bought some candles and some pine scented cones, which are so evocative of that wonderful spirit.
Do not worry about being a ahead of time Keith, you are simply leading the way to wonderland!!!
    Best wishes,
    Eileen :)

  21. I agree with you the Christmas season is a special time of the year. I like Christmas music, too. Thanks for this post.

  22. I love Christmas too! It isn't so much about Christmas day itself, but the feeling I get leading up to it. There is something magical about everything and I feel more connected to the world.

  23. Good for you. I've often had the urge to have Christmas in July. I usually put up the outside stuff the day after Remembrance Day (or at least, the first decent day) and what my husband refers to as the 'Christmas Crap' goes up indoors on Dec 1.
Thanks for dropping in on thefeatherednest....

  24. I have a slight addiction to peppermint mocha coffees. Just a slight on. I may put the tree up next weekend. We'll see.

  25. I always wait till after Thanksgiving. I like to give each holiday season it's time. I love Thanksgiving, and I want to fully appreciate it.

  26. James & I usually decorate a couple weeks before Christmas. We cut down a few small, scraggly pines and lash them together into one BIG Christmas tree, and decorate it. A few ornaments and thing-a-mabobs are then scattered throughout the one room we live in during the winter. Then we play lots of holiday music on the iPod. Lovely time of year!

Have a great Christmas yourself! Your decorations are pretty.

  28. I grew up putting up the tree the day after Thanksgiving. Of course every year I am SO tempted to put it up early. Luckily, my husband has more restraint than I do, and doesn't allow such things. haha :)

I still consider myself to be a Christmas Nut though!

  29. LOL! This is awesome! :D Some years we listen to Christmas music all year. This year, my family and I have already watched "The Christmas Do-over," but my husband always wants to waith until after Thanksgiving to decorate for Christmas. So this year (despite getting in the mood to celebrate early)I DREAMED about decorating and that we waited until after Thanksgiving to decorate, then realized Christmas was only ONE week away. IT WAS A NIGHTMARE, ACTUALLY! ... I think we may decorate THE DAY OF THANKSGIVING (due to my nightmare)- after the Thanksgiving celebration. :o We did that a few times when the kids were little and had a blast with it. :) Anyhow, GOOD FOR YOU for doing your own thing and making the Christmas season good and long!

  33. Oh wow, this is early! We always put ours up the weekend before the 1st of December. So excited for Christmas! xxx

  34. I am a Christmas nut too! I wait until the day after Thanksgiving to start listening to Christmas music and decorating, but I've been watching my neighbor put up more and more decorations each weekend since the beginning of the month. Your living room looks great!

  35. Christmas time is a fantastic time of the year. I love seeing all the decorated houses and I love decorating my Christmas tree. And making Christmas cookies! Oh, and Christmas movies!

  36. Thanksgiving Day, often. My sister and I, as we matured, began to skip out of the big family dinner early to go home, jam some Dave Matthews Band and Garth Brooks (no, not christmas tunes), and put the tree up. As for decorating outside, maybe around then, depended on the weather. We'd usually wait until the coldest day of the month to do it ;)

  37. yes you may....

too funny though as we put our tree up this last saturday...too much struggle going on right now in life...it became the balm needed to get to happy...

  38. One can never be too nutty about Christmas!

  39. Your living room looks very festive. I usually wait until after Thanksgiving to decorate for Christmas. As much as I love Christmas, I like to celebrate one holiday at a time. :) I usually get a real fresh tree. The pine scent is nice. I will probably start Christmas decorating next week :)

  40. I enjoy this time of year too! It rocks! The holidays help bring together so many of us. I just decorated my home yesterday. It looks all bright and uh magical. :-)

  41. Ok, you're worse than me! And I've always driven my family nuts with my love of Christmas music and movies! :p
But setting up the tree and decorations before December has always seemed insane to me!!! Part of what I enjoy is that it's an intense holiday period, I don't want it watered down by starting too soon! In my family we've usually set things up 1st or 2nd weekend of December. This year it won't be until the 15th.
Then again we don't take anything down until January 7th (or basically the weekend after January 6th). Twelve Days of Christmas and all that! ;o)

  44. We usually do it close to Thanksgiving. I get so into it as well. My husband used to more so than he does now. I'm not looking forward to the time when the boys don't believe in Santa. I think Mica's already wondering about him. Some people don't celebrate Santa at all. I found it to be fun, and magical feeling.
