The earth is a precious gift…let's not squander it. It’s not too late…

  1. If we all did just one small thing...after all, it was a whole lot of 'just one things' that caused damage to our planet...

  2. This is a good reminder today, Keith. I like the comment of the poster before. If all of us who are reading this would do just one thing today......just as pick up litter in our environment or plant a tree.....it could make a difference and make a start.

  3. We must all be aware. Thanks, Keith.

  4. I wish I were as optimistic about the future of our planet as you, but I'm not. Technology and Economics rule our world, and it's spreading into third-world countries that are (China in particular) making a mess of it. We've done next to nothing to stop global warming. Back in the sixties, Eric Fromm wrote in Revolution of Hope that if we cut back our lifestyle by 10%, we could solve our problems. I'm not sure we've cut it back even 1%.

  5. Amen and then some!! Love that quote!!!

  7. This day almost got lost in all the hullabaloo that has captured our minds lately.
The Native Americans had a much better appreciation than we do of our earth and the animals that live here. We are too much a throw away society and keep thinking there is more where that came from.
    Thanks for the reminder Keith.

  8. The Earth is a precious gift and I've never heard that quote. It makes more sense and would probably get people thinking more about what they do.

  10. I am not really too sure about it being too late. But yes, if we start asap, there is a lot that can be done. Either way, I am ~23, have at most 70 more Earth Days to celebrate and I think the earth will be safe till then.

My prejudice/reservations apart, that was a great quote. I think I am gonna be thinking about it for a few days.

  24. If only people would listen. As my thirteen year old daughter says, "Even if people don't believe in global warming, surely they're smart enough to realise that the earth will eventually run out of everything they're using?"

  46. This is true... we really need to take care of this world for our children instead of wasting things so much... :)

Happy Earth day to you Keith!!!

  47. Wise words from a native North American. The spirit of the First Nation's people understand that we have to respect nature's natural balance on our fragile planet.

    Be well, human.

  48. Happy Earth Day (even though we should celebrate every day)!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Yes, Happy Earth Day! It should be every day.
It's heartbreaking to see how much we take this wonderful, unique, unbelievable planet for granted, how little we care about it. I hope Earth will find a way, even if we don't...

  50. I hope it's not too late, Keith ... I live in the country ... still ... I see changes all around me ... the farmers are getting ready for spring seeding ... sounds lovely and innocent, but pesticides will follow in order to protect the crops ...I am surrounded by the "precious" Alberta oil pumps ... I'm assured that my drinking water is safe to drink ... we are calving out 30+ cows right now ... with 20 on the ground ... 3 of them where extremely weak, and needed 24 hr care ... never happened before. When I started beef farming 30 years ago , the little critters were born and on their feet 30 minutes later ... I feel so very sad right now ... about our future.

  51. So true! What a great reminder about the fragility and gift of life.

  52. Hi Keith - we definitely need to think of the earth and protect it, while remembering we're all human, all linked and all important to each other and then add in all the flora and fauna ... all should be well - sadly man isn't always that thoughtful.

I live in hope .. cheers Hilary

  53. Very true, more protection, less human garbage

  54. Some of my family members know I'm a big tree-hugger and asked what I was doing for Earth Day. The thing is, here every day is Earth Day. We try to watch our power and water consumption, and my husband and I have been working on planting trees, removing invasive plants, and putting in more drought tolerant plantings throughout our yard. I love me some mother earth.

    ReplyDelete
  55. And we should take care of it better then we do! sandie

    ReplyDelete
  56. Certainly it is not too late. We should preserve it for our children.

  62. It’s up to each of us to take care of the earth – if we still have time, it’s not much unfortunately.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Beautiful Keith and so true, it isn't too late...

    ReplyDelete
  64. True! We need to preserve earth for the future generation. Should not think earth is ours alone to do anything to ruins.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I love how you put it as a gift:) we are not as priviliaged as we thing we are

    ReplyDelete
  66. I'm all in there with you Keith.

  68. Hello friend! I recently moved my old blog over to this neck of the woods. I've missed reading your posts!

    ReplyDelete
  69. I don't know how I missed this post. I'm getting way behind with the A-Z.
Such a beautiful thought, Keith, do you really think there is still a chance to save it? So many of the trees are dying and that really makes me sad.

  70. Earth Day sort of zoomed past a lot of us this year, I think. Hope you did something beneficial.

  73. Exactly. Lovely quote. A singer/songwriter in New Zealand used that quote in a song in 1975 titled "A Question of Values" - the theme song for the world's first green political party.

  74. Happy belated Earth Day! Beautiful quote! :)

  75. I love that quote to! I love the Native American philosophy about the earth.

We've been trying to be better. Somethings we do: We hardly waste food. If I see that fruit is looking like it's on it's last limb I wash it, cut it and freeze it for later smoothies. We keep a compost pile year round. We use reusable sandwich bags for our lunches and for shopping. I buy good clothes for the boys. Why? Because I can get it to go through 3 kids at least: My oldest, my youngest, and handed down. Except for jeans, no matter how good they are they put holes in the knees.

Now I do need to work on shorter showers. It's my best relaxing moment. At least I take one every other day.

  76. Another great quote and so true! Happy Earth Day should be everyday!
