Summertime

Seeing as though this is the first week of summer, I thought a summer post would be apropos.

It has been crazy hot this week in Germany, and summer is in full-swing. The days are filled with 17 hours of daylight, and the nights are filled with the sounds of crickets. People are having BBQs and drinking ice cold drinks. The lake shores are full of people, and the trees are full of their rich green leaves.

The world is one big party in the summertime, it seems!

Though summer is my least favorite of the seasons (weird, I know), is it not without things that I enjoy:

The romanticism of baseball being played on a warm summer night

The sounds of crickets and katydids in the nighttime air while driving through the country

Summer cookouts

The wonderful electricity in the air right before a glorious thunderstorm

Ice cream on hot days (or if I am being truthful, on any day really)

The admiration one feels when seeing the hard-working farmers tending to their fields

A glass of ice cold lemonade on a scorching hot day

Summer blockbuster movies

The sound of frogs coming from the ponds surrounding the countryside

Going to the beach and playing in the ocean

Summer most definitely has its perks, even though I will always be an autumn and winter person (as of today, only 6 more months until Christmas!)

What is your favorite thing about summer?

  1. I love the long white nights of summer here in Swede, when it really never gets very dark. And the light - oh, I love the light!

  2. I prefer spring or autumn, but if I lived near an ocean I might enjoy summer more.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Actually, my favourite is the Spring, always something happening, the new babes, sheep and birds, lovely.

    ReplyDelete
  4. haha 6 more months to go, I knew you'd know. Sadly I did too. Ugg to snow. But then the beach gets sand every which way, so there is that at ones bay. Plus sweating a ton too, that is just ewww. Movies sure are a perk though. That and no snow lol

  5. My favorite seasons are the transitional ones - autumn and spring.
I suppose I like summer for the laziness and casualness that it affords - - sun-drenched days and enchanted nights, picnics, swimming, iced tea, fresh fruits, ice cream and sherbet, hiking, savoring the delights of nature.

  6. Le soir sous les arbres quand les oiseaux chantent avant que la nuit ne s'installe

  7. My favourit part of summer? When it ends. I really, really don't like the sweaty season. I do like the longer daylight hours though. It only it was cool enough to do things with them...

    ReplyDelete
  8. I love making dairy-free ice cream and eating it any day as well. Unless it's too cold, then my fingers go white. Burrrr.

    Happy Summer :)

    ReplyDelete
  9. I am not a summer lover, preferring the coolness of spring and autumn. However I like to hear the bees buzzing around the flowers, the longer days, fruit picking from the garden and eating fresh salads.

    ReplyDelete
  10. All my days are summer.
    I have no choice.

    ReplyDelete
  11. In my neck of the woods summer means more daylight hours … more time to get creative which is a good thing. Night comes so quickly in winter and the thought of Christmas only 6 months away gave me a shiver.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I love the long days... Especially being able to start my runs early. I also love the fresh fruits and veggies from the garden.

    ReplyDelete
  13. more daylight, bird songs, plenty of fresh fruits.

    (says the autumn person)

  14. Hummingbirds! Hummingbirds are my favorite part about summer. Gardening, swimming, feeling warm, summer berries, summer tomatoes, farmer's markets, having a glass of wine on the porch, driving with the windows down, sundresses, flip flips, popsicles... ok, I'm just now realizing I could go on FOREVER. I'm definitely a summer person. But everyone is different Keith, no two people are exactly alike! :-)

    Have a great weekend!

  15. Like you, summer is my least favorite season. Summer for me is scorching, sweltering heat, mountain resorts, fresh cool watermelon, and shaved ice. Until the mid-July is relatively cool rainy season before summer attacks us with its full force.

  16. Hello Keith, I agree ice cream can be enjoyed year round. Snowballs are great in the summer, chocolate with marshmellow is my favorite snowball flavor. Seeing my summer birds is another one of my happy things, I love the hummers too. I like to hear the sounds of the frogs in my yard. The long daylight and warmer weather is great too. Happy Saturday, enjoy your day and weekend!

  17. Heck, I am a Brit... summer lasts about two days and then we get winter. Then it rains for weeks on end and we get three days of sunshine... Then we all moan that we are too hot :-) I love the spring when everything is fresh and new. My garden looks stunning in April and the light is beautiful.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I enjoy eating outdoors. As soon as it's warm enough, we eat most of our meals outside. We also cook most meals outdoors too. Love the freedom of summer.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I am a late fall and winter person too . . .
Several favorites I can list from those seasons . . .
My very favorite summertime treat is sitting on the porch, (screened, no "skeeters" then) and listening to bird sounds/songs. I like watching them flit about and take baths in the bird baths. Especially the Robins. A bath is a "big deal" for the Robin!
A good book in hand . . . I can spend hours there.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I know that we try to avoid the cottage in summer but like spending time there in fall and winter.

    ReplyDelete
  21. autumn is my most favorite time of year, but summer brings the migrating hummingbirds back to us and we so enjoy them and I do love to cook outdoors but I can do that any time of year. I also love all the pond critters'noises and I like that it is light early in the day

    ReplyDelete
  22. My favorite thing about summer is being able to leave the house without a coat and gloves. Just pop in and out any old time. Also, my fondest childhood memories are from summer. Endless, carefree days with my sisters without a worry!
But my favorite season is autumn. Too bad it's spoiled by the approach of a long winter.

    ReplyDelete
  23. great list. My favorites of summer is just the laid back chill feeling. And the brilliant colours of trees, flowers, everything in bloom and everyone outside chatting to neighbours. Love it.

    ReplyDelete
  24. It's winter in Australia Keith and I am not a winter person, even though our winters are mild compared to the northern hemisphere.
I LOVE going to the beach and playing in the ocean....heaven on earth!
    Take care

  25. I'm with you on summer not being a favorite season but there are things I like about it including baseball

    ReplyDelete
  26. great sky shot and it's been crazy hot here also.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Being able to garden and grow our own organic food! But then there are also the biting bugs, heat and humidity. Fortunately, here in Minnesota we don't get a lot of really hot weather. (We chose it for a reason!)

    ReplyDelete
  28. My favorite thing about summer is staying in the air conditioning. It's hotter than hell.

    Love,
    Janie

  29. Thanks for your comment on Ocala (Florida). Summer is here, also, with a vengeance. 97 degrees today. That's hot for us. I don't much like cold weather and snow, either, though. I guess that leaves fall and spring and those seasons are heavenly in this part of Florida! Love that cloudy sky!

  30. Not having to wear winter clothes! Reminds me I have to go water the lawn though.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Hi! I like summer season. A crisp morning in a highland area is a nice day. But humid hot days would last in Tokyo.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I like summer so that I don't have to wear thick clothes, jumpers, jackets and coats.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Boating is my favorite thing about summer. We boat year around, but the boating is far more enjoyable in the summer.

    Have a fabulous day. ☺

    ReplyDelete
  34. Your post's title reminds me of the picturesque line from the famous lulliby "Porgy and Bess" : "fish are jumping and the cotton is high."

Despite the scorching heat, I prefer summer to the other seasons. During spring and late autumn the weather is very fickle and I hate that just as I hate fickliness in a human being. Winter is cold and that could affect one's health, mood, and social life.

In summer I feel light (no sweaters), free to move and enjoy whatever Nature has to offer: birds' chirping, fragrances of flowers, travel, the splendor of blue sky and water , and so muh more.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I was under the ignorant impression most drinks were served ice free.

Sounds like a wonderful time and more ahead. Enjoy.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Definitely I'm missing playing in the sea... Ice cream...eventually we stop eating...but the walking, eating outside, camping - still available...just move!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Yes, the summer blockbuster movies! That's best. Like you, summer is my least favorite - too hot and humid and the grass grows like bamboo.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Me too , actually I love early Autumn the best , like in your gorgeous background picture : )

    ReplyDelete
  39. I live in Hell (no really, look Phoenix's weather up this past week, and you will agree ...lol!) and I stay because of family (oh the things we do for love! ha!) .. so summer here starts in APRIL and doesn't quit until THANKSGIVING .. it's quite depressing (again, enter in the love equation...) ... so Summer is my least FAVE time of the year, there is nothing I love about it! ;) HOWEVER COMMA, 6 months from today is my FAVE day of the year, so there is that :)

    ReplyDelete
  40. My birthday is on the Summer Solstice, so that's cool. I'm an autumn winter person too. Maybe that's because my ancestor's came from the cool regions of Northern Germany? I can't bear the heat and humidity we sometimes get here in Michigan.

    ReplyDelete
  41. It is so long since you have mentioned Germany, I was wondering if you were still there and maybe things went horribly wrong. My favourite thing about summer is the cool change that blows in after three days of very hot weather and the temperature drops from 40 degrees to 22 degrees. I assume you now understand Celsius temperatures.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Outdoors, late at night, sounds drifting on soft breezes...

    ReplyDelete
  43. Great photo at top; really captures that summer time feel. I like to appreciate each season for its own splendors. Your list really captures some of the wonders of summer!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I love your header photo!!!
What do I like about summer? Aside from our HVAC unit ... nothing. All my life, it's been my least favorite of the seasons. (Nice knowing I'm not alone!) Already, I'm counting the days until the days grow shorter and darker.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Beautiful photo and I really love your header photo!
Love the word Summer. That's include everything :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. I loved going to Jones Beach when I was a teenager. I love the ocean and I miss it, living in New Mexico. But truth is, I love the ocean in winter, too. My favorite season is Fall.

    ReplyDelete
  47. My favorite thing about summer is going up to the lake and rowing around my raft, or floating in the water, evenings, at the lake, my ears under, too, so I hear nothing watching the light fade and stars gather luster.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Picnis, hikes, family get-together and I love the long hot days. Enjoy your summer !

    ReplyDelete
  49. My long walks in nature are my favourite part of summer...however, I do not like high heat and humidity so I must pick my days for these walks. When the temperatures get to be 30 celsius and higher I stay where it is safe, in an air conditioned environment. I love your background, Keith, it is lovely!

  50. Grab the summer gusto while you can! You have a great list of things to enjoy. Thanks for stopping by my blog. The trilogy I am reading during my summer blog break is set...well begins in the Thuringian Forest: Lauscha, Sonneberg, Steinach and the plot heavily revolves around German blown-glass Christmas ornaments. Happy Summer Greetings!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Wow...someone else where summer is their least favorite season! I feel this way, too!
My favorite season is autumn, followed by winter, then spring and then summer :)
I do love listening to the song birds in summer, the crickets and the frogs in the evening after it rains.
Also, with the windows open on summer nights...I love hearing the train whistles off in the distance. So soothing are the night sounds.
I loved summer when I was a kid...but now that I will be seventy in August...not so much anymore~

    ReplyDelete
  52. I hope you're watching the Euros! I love that guessing game every morning over whether I'm wearing the right outfit for the changeable British weather - it's a game that never gets old ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  53. Well, It looks like you have many things to do and enjoy during summer :) Although is your least favorite of the seasons he he...
I also like playing at the ocean, amazing!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Kick out the ice cream and I am on board with your list oh and lets add lazy Sunday afternoons outside in the hammock, where reading slides into napping.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I do enjoy summer, it is my favorite time of the year. There seems to be a lightness of spirit as there is more sunlight. Enjoy your summer Keith!

    ReplyDelete
  56. My favorite thing about summer is ... air conditioning! In the deep south, it gets really hot during summer, everything seems to want to sting or bite you, and folks are grouchy with the heat. Indian Summer is my favorite time of year actually. Thanks for the nice comment on my blog.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Like you summer is not my favorite season. I like spring and fall better. but as you said I do love summer's perks and listening to the night sounds of the crickets and katydids and sitting on the porch with a cool glass of lemonade is heavenly. Hope you have a nice weekend and thanks for your sweet comment on mine.

  58. Hello Keith!:)
What I enjoy most about summer is donning my swimsuit early morning, and eating breakfast outdoors, listening to the nature sounds all around me. Similarly, dining on the patio, and staying up late outdoors with a cool drink, listening to the crickets, and I even enjoy the cacophony coming from the fish pond where frogs abound. Another thing Hubby and I both enjoy is walking on the beach and swimming in the sea. Have a great weekend Keith.:)

  59. Ah ! So my question is answered about the Autumn background to your blog .. I too am a total Autumn person it is my favorite season. I think because of Halloween and then Dia de los Muertos.
I know that must sound a bit weird bit I just am connected to Fall deeply .. have you ever watched the series "Dead Like Me" Mandy Patinkin was in it .. it only had two or three seasons but it had me glued to it.
Your query was what we like about summer .. I am waiting to hear the crickets, they aren't here yet .. I so wish we had frogs singing .. summer is hot and humid and stifling so it is hard to like it, but ? it enhances the garden and some mornings you catch the moon in the sky still. Anything COLD is a wonderful foil against the summer heat (ice cream is good any time but a little more so in summer ? LOL)
Summer will slip away and lead us to Autumn, so it is like the first act towards the favorite play of seasons.

  60. I love spring and autumn, the time of equinox. An equal amount of daylight and night-time. The seasons of color with spring flowers and fallen leaves. The one thing I do love about summer is all the fruits and veggies at the Farmer's Market. Yum!

    ReplyDelete
  61. My birthday is June 21st. Many years that's the first day of summer. When I was a kid I thought it was always the first day of summer. Turns out the 20th is sometimes the first day of summer. I've always love hot summer days. I like hikes, water parks, camping, and not having to put a coat on.

My favorite holiday is Christmas. It wouldn't be the same without winter, but summer is my favorite season.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Being born in Autumn I enjoy that season the most, but there are still things about each season that continue to inspire and bring me joy. As for summer, it means we can have our neighbors over to sit on the porch and sip either cold drinks in the evening, or hot coffee in the morning. Being outdoors is the best part of summer for me because I love watching the children, birds, bunnies and animals frolicking in the warm weather!

    ReplyDelete
  63. My favorite thing about summer is the long days of light! (Beautiful photo, by the way!) Your description of the katydids -- and everything -- there in Germany sounds so much like our northeast U.S. right now! I'm recapturing, this year, the joy of going barefoot outside. Lyme disease changed the sensation in my feet (over-sensitive to walking on pebbles and branches), so this feels like a good time to start inspiring that to change. Even when it hurts, feeling the earth under my feet is still . . . wonderful! :)

    ReplyDelete
  64. Summer is not my favourite either...often way too hot and humid and I can't stay cool unless I am inside. My favourite is spring( when we have it) and Autumn. I don't mind winter either even though I don't ski or anything but I can stay warm.

    ReplyDelete
  65. summer is lovely. In Poland today is 35
    C degrees in the shadow

    ReplyDelete
  66. My favorite thing is the beach. I don't see it often, but I'm going to soon. Woohoo!
    Enjoy it all, Keith.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I live in Texas..it's a low of 95 heat index 108..and it's not even our hottest months yet...arghghgh..

    ReplyDelete
  68. What I love about summer is not being cold anymore! But now of course I'm hot all the time...

    ReplyDelete
  69. I enjoy the sunshine and fresh produce of summer. Like you, I prefer autumn and even winter over summer. Have a great weekend!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Probably my favorite thing about summer is the smells. I like the smell of freshly cut grass. I like the smell of dirt that fills the air after a brief rain. I like the smell of the flowers on trees and every where else. I even like the smells of animals for short amounts of time.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Nice summer shot. I don't have a favorite thing about summer, there's so much to love. The consistently sunny days, afternoon thunderstorms, hiking, walking the dogs, newly-cut grass, wildflowers - Colorado summers are wonderful.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I love the light and that my teacher sister is available for visiting for a week at a time.

    ReplyDelete
  73. What is your favorite thing about summer? Air conditioning!

It's too hot and humid in Florida in the summer to really enjoy the outdoors. The heat alone wouldn't be so bad, but it gets so humid I think we're swatting fish, not mosquitoes, around here.

Contrary to popular belief, we do have four seasons here in Florida:
    1. Almost summer
    2. Summer
    3. Still summer
    4. Christmas

    Enjoy the nice weather!

    ReplyDelete
  74. I guess it would be wrong to say my favorite thing about summer is air conditioning, huh? I don't fare well in hot weather, and it gets pretty darned hot in Georgia.

But my favorite thing about summer actually has to do with food. I love the availability of so many fresh fruits and vegetables. It's heavenly!

    ReplyDelete
  75. What is my favorite thing about summer? The next season....fall.

    ReplyDelete
  76. The sounds of summer for me are cicadas in the trees, crickets and frogs everywhere after a rain. And then fireflies add to the visuals in the evening.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I enjoy most of the summer things you mentioned, with the possible exception of summer blockbuster movies. I don't see many movies anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I LOVED hearing crickets throughout the night as a child. But in recent years, where are they??? :-(

My fav thing about summer (and it's not my fav season, fall is) is going to the beach, having a swim in a beautiful lake or the ocean. Pure bliss. :-)

Hope you have a wonderful summer Keith. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  79. Ha...I love the ice cream one - at least you're being honest! lol
My favourite thing about summer...is not being cold! ;)...THAT, to me, is pure bliss...:))

  80. Hi, Keith!
Summer is a scorcher for us in the high desert of Arizona. It is my least favorite season of the year. The first hours of early morning are pretty but I have to get my outdoor exercise in by 7:00 a.m.!

    ReplyDelete
  81. Of course baseball. It is what makes my summers bearable. Like you I like the cooler temps. This will sound odd but I do love to mow the lawn in summer. Few chores give such immediate gratification and obvious results with a little bit of pride thrown in.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Awesome sky shot with those puffy clouds and dynamic blue color ~

Happy Day and Weekend to you ~ ^_^

ps. favorite thing about summer ~ 'living is easy'

    ReplyDelete
  83. Being out of school was always my favorite thing about summer and usually going somewhere else for a bit. I could use a change of scene and a break from the rain.

    ReplyDelete
  84. I always forget you live in Deutschland now. So, you probably got the news about us. Oh, well, at least there's summer to look forward to. Oh, no, wait, it's been bucketing all week long and my hay fever is killing me.

    Greetings from London.

    ReplyDelete
  85. My favorite things about summer are the same as yours except maybe the movie watching. I'm not much of a movie person. Something else about summer I love is planting a garden, fresh produce, and the flowers that bloom.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I prefer spring and autumn, because I don't like the heat. That was one reason I left Georgia - too muggy, too buggy, and too hot. I do like the fact that in summer, most gardens flourish and more food is fresh, especially berries and veggies.

  91. My favorite part about summer is when it's over. It's gonna be 110F here tomorrow and most of the rest of this summer. It's too hot, I'll be glad to get back in the mid 50's.

  92. How wonderfully you said in this so positive post: "The world is one big party in the summertime"...And so well related to the rich sky full with fluffy clouds, so specific to the summertime!
And "What is my favorite thing about summer? "... I think fruits and the huge pallette of colors of summery blooms...Oh yes... and, of course, waiting for the Christmas celebrations, again...;) *-*
till then, all the best and a happy Summer!

  93. Nowadays my most favourite thing about summer is its end. We're having a lovely chilly winter's weekend here...and I just love it - and my two furry rascals are enjoying snuggling up close and personal, too...for the warmth! :)

  94. We have 20-21 hours :D I do like that

    ReplyDelete
  95. I love the longer days, the hot sun, the green everywhere, going to the farmers' markets, eating meals on the deck, the festivals, the flowers. Everything about summer is good except wasps & the possibility of tornadoes here.

    ReplyDelete
  96. I'm not a fan of summer either and never have been. Too much light, too much heat & humidity, too many bugs, too much traffic, too many tourists. I love the spring and fall.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I'm not much of a summer person. Like spring, but too damn hot. Autumn never lasts long enough

  98. I love swimming in my pool at the height of summer and enjoying the backyard flowers in bloom around the pool deck.

  99. Watching the kids splash about in the paddling pool, and the smell of honeysuckle on warm late evenings. Bliss.

    ReplyDelete
  100. I love cool summer mornings for walking. : )
I like the longer daylight hours, working in the garden and sitting on the front porch.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Summer is my least favorite season, too. I don't like strong sunshine and there are mosquitoes everywhere. Upside is, like you, ice cream on hot days. But again, like you, I enjoy ice cram on any day :-)

    ReplyDelete
  102. I like the daylight of summer and as long as it doesn't get too hot, I don't mind the heat. My least favorite is winter with the shorter days, I miss my sunlight :)

  103. Summer is my least favorite season, too. I don't like the murderous heat and humidity and I don't like the bitey bugs. I DO like the summer fruits and vegetables though and the ease of cooking on things the grill.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Everything seems greener, the water is warm and bluer, and I love that it stays daylight now til about 8:30.

    ReplyDelete
  105. What I do not like are days above 85 degrees. It is so light out in summer that days are very long. The hummingbirds love to dart around my gardens and peek in the window at me.

    ReplyDelete
  106. WELL--I'll admit that summer is also my LEAST favorite season --although our flowers (roses, lilies, day lilies, etc.) are beautiful in late spring and summer....

I don't like the heat and humidity --and am NOT a 'water' person.. SO--swimming, boating, etc are not something I would do although summer is the time to enjoy them IF you like that kind of stuff....

I do love walking in the evening (almost dark) when the 'tree frogs' are 'singing'.... That is neat!!!!!

SO---there are some neat things about summer... BUT me???? I'm waiting for FALL.

    Hugs,
    Betsy

    ReplyDelete
  107. All I'm going to say is "I love winter because there are no flying, stinging, biting bugs to dodge when I am outside." Any kind of insect that makes its way into my home during winter is fair game and I will hunt it down. Ugghh, bugs!

    ReplyDelete
  108. Me, too! Summer is actually my least favorite season. Heat and humidity are not my friends--LOL! The thing I like best abnout summer, therefore, is a good air conditioner. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  109. I am thoroughly enjoying the lushness of the season. Unlike many people, I also enjoy the warmth. And having fierce winters makes me more enjoy the summer.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Autumn is definitely my favorite times of year watching the leaves change and the cool, crisp evening air. :-) But summer means fun with my girls despite the heat so I'm thankful for it as well, lol. Enjoy!

  111. Keith, although I love Autumn... I have begun loving summer more.. I like not having to wear a jacket or boots... I like being able to walk out my door and just go, not think about if I will be warm enough... however; I do live in a place where it is cold 8 months + per year which can be exhausting... I do like having 4 seasons I just wish the winters were not so harsh xox

  112. My favorite thing about summer? Closing the pool.
Okay, a hot dog, pretzel, and two beers at the ball game.
    But, seriously, closing the pool.

  119. I love to hear the crickets and katy dids at night when i am sleeping.

    Happy Summer, stay cool.

  120. Sadly, I haven't done any of those things yet this summer. I've just been working a new job and internship. I should take a weekend to myself to go hiking or something before its too hot to even step outside.

    ReplyDelete
  121. I don't mind summer but I rather like spring and fall. Fall because the weather cools off and thankfully summer is over. Spring because things are warming up, the snow melts and thankfully winter is over. Each seaon has its merits and flaws.

  122. Since it's hot as heck in Kuwait and will be up to 51 C by midweek, I'm not much of a summer person either ... until I get to the States, where temperatures are much more bearable ... then I love it! ;)

  123. Hello Keith,
The summer is the best time of the year. Hopefully with plenty of Sunshine and enjoy to go out.
    Nice picture!!

  124. Love summer, not so fond of the cold. Winter here in Australia as you would know...but heading to the sub tropics.

  125. I love summer for the flowers and for the migrant birds that choose to spend this season with us. Birdsong falls away in summer but we can see the young birds making their start in life which is just wonderful. I also like the long light evenings....

  126. I love the sky and time on the river.

  129. Good to see you back, summer is not my favorite season, I love the season of fall...but I like the summer mornings.

    ReplyDelete
  130. I don't fare well in the heat so summer has never been my favorite either. Even though fall is basically the death of nature, it's always been my favorite. BUT, halfway to Christmas? Already? I feel like I just put away my snow boots.

    ReplyDelete
  131. i love summer in the u.s. because of all the festivals and special events. i love fireworks, riding my bike, movies on the beach and picnics in the park but all of those special things come with a price as i am very heat intolerant. i guess, i love those things in spring and fall, although so far this summer, we have gotten a fun fun things in!!!

  132. Thank you - summer is not my favorite, either - good to know i have company.

Favorite? knowing so many enjoy gathering together - the joy they share - and usually the color they bring to everything they do - is nice.

  133. I live in Singapore where it is a tropical country and you could say that we have hot and rainy summers all year round. Our sun rises at 6+am and sets at about 6+pm so I would really ill to have 17 hours of daylight coz it gives the illusion that I have lots of time in a day.

  137. Great list of summer favorites - as long as the sun is out and the air is warm I am happy - no matter the season!

    ReplyDelete
  138. Beautiful post!! Yeh 6 more months till Christmas! Oh, we were talking about summer? LOL! I love watching all the birds and animals and staying up late at night, and looking into the sky. I also love to swim!

    ReplyDelete
  139. Spring and fall are my favorite seasons, but summer isn't far behind. I love the long days of summer. Winter is my least favorite season.

    ReplyDelete
  140. Summer has its own beauty as does each season. Baseball is my favorite sport. Go Texas Rangers. Yes, the crickets and other insects make their presence known. Lovely moths and butterflies. I'm not so crazy about the rattle snakes though, or the hot temperatures. Still, it's a lazy time for me, writing, napping, playing with the cats.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Summer is my second favourite season after spring! I love that I can put away boots, hats, scarves, coats, gloves and even socks. Hello, sandals! :)

    ReplyDelete
  142. I have to think about that. I'm not fond of warm weather (and I burn so easily in the sun), so I look forward to the cooler temps of winter (it stays pretty hot during fall--when we get our Santa Anas and wildfires).

I know! My birthday. That's probably my favorite part of summer. (Took me a while to remember that my birthday is in about a month.)

    ReplyDelete
  143. Living in Australia makes for a lover of the cold weather which we get for a month or so a year. The rest of the time we swelter. But in summer, the things I like are: airconditioning, beaches, swimming pools, BBQs etc etc.

    ReplyDelete
  144. When it's Summer, I yearn for Winter. When it's Winter, I year for Summer. Here in Canada we get both the extremes: hot and cold.

    ReplyDelete
  145. That's an amazing list of things to love about Summer. There's something I adore about all four seasons, but Autumn is by far my favourite, and my favourite thing about Summer is probably having more hours of daylight.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Thanks for visiting and leaving a comment. Our summer is very unbalanced. Rain, sunshine and thunderstorms. What I like about summer is the abundance of colourful bushes. The light green of the trees. Actually I like all seasons, but autumn is my favourite.
I wish you a great summer week.

  147. I'm not a big summer fan either. Temperatures above 28°C are just not my thing but I agree, there are some things to enjoy at this time of the year like the sounds of crickets and frogs and having a reason to eat more ice cream. :)
    Have a great day, Keith!

    ReplyDelete
  148. I think ice cream and my annual summer vacation is my favourite part about summer. I'm not a major fan of all the heat and bright sunshine myself.

    ReplyDelete
  149. Fall is my favorite season. I do enjoy things about summer too. Probably my favorite thing about summer is time with my family at the beach.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Summer is your least favorite of the seasons... We need to talk.

What I like about summer? Women. (I know, I'm superficial that way.) The summer break. (It's the best!) Sunshine. (Being exhausted 24/7, a bit of sunshine boosts my energy like no other thing on the planet.)

    ReplyDelete
  151. enjoy your header shot. the background too. my favorite part of summer: camping, hiking, biking ... & just enjoy all the quiet relaxing times. i love campfires & just watching the stars. have a great week!! ( ;

    ReplyDelete
  152. some of my favourite summer things are swimming, ice cream as well, eating outside and picnics, daylight (24h a day in finland, haha!) and wearing less clothes! xx

  153. I love summer. I love the heat and the long hours of sunshine. I love thunderstorms. I love fireflies. I love swimming. I love fresh vegetables. I love summer.

  154. I'm not huge on summer either...but man, baseball is definitely the one thing that makes summertime all worthwhile. Watching fireflies in the backyard is pretty great too...

    ReplyDelete
  156. My favourite season has to be autumn, but that's not to say that summer isn't pretty awesome too. I love camping during summer, and going for walks around where I live. This summer I'm actually going to a music camp, so that'll be fun.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Summer is terrific here, but still the summer breeze and vacation times are fabulous about summer.

    ReplyDelete
  158. There are so many things I love about summer. But, my favorite may be the carefree/laid back/leisurely feeling I get in summer.

    ReplyDelete
  159. Seventeen hours of sunlight? Yikes!

    ReplyDelete
  160. I'm generally not a fan of summertime myself--I prefer autumn above all of the others! However, I do like that I can go swimming in an outdoor pool or lake. I think that swimming is the only thing that I really LOVE about summer.

    ReplyDelete
  161. What I love about summer:

    longer days
less clothes (which means less laundry!)
ice cream and slushies on a hot day
    summer thunderstorms
    fireworks on 4th of July
    watermelon
    beach trips
kayaking and stand up paddle boarding
    bbq with family and friends
    lightning bugs
    running through the sprinkler
    root beer floats

and so many more! Summer is always going to be my favorite season!

  163. Hello, Keith! Delighted to meet you.

I love many of the summer things you shared. Another big one for me began just today: Wimbledon!

    ReplyDelete
  164. I agree with you that summer is my less favorite season, as I find it hard to hike in very hot weather. I prefer autumn and winter. When I lived in NYC I often retreated to the rivers or beaches in summer as the water made me feel cooler. Now that I live in a mountain state I like to take drives u to the mountain tops--it can be many degrees cooler there. I do like cook outs and picnics in summer and watching flowers grow.

  165. Oh Keith I have to admit to being a summer person -- I'm happy when the sun shines, hate being cold and damp and that's why we spend the winter in Florida where it is almost endless summer. Home now in Oregon and happy to be enjoying summer all over again -- summer flowers, beautiful green grass and trees (because it rained a lot during the winter and spring while we were gone), picking blueberries at our daughters' home. And some of the things you so beautifully mentioned -- we love summer days (no matter what season it is!)

    ReplyDelete
  166. I love autumn- but I do enjoy summer. So much to appreciate in every season. But- the extra daylight is probably one of my favorite parts. I am a big fan of drawing outside and the warmer weather gives me more time to indulge. :)

  167. Summer is my favorite actually! Glad you found at least some things to enjoy. The ice cold lemonade is one of my favorite parts too!

    ReplyDelete
  168. You mentioned all of my summer favorites as well. I really do love summer but of course not an excessive amount of heat nor dangerous weather such as tornados. I really do love autumn and winter much like you. So much excitement and contentment at the same time!

You have a lovely blog---thanks so much for your visit! :-D

  172. I love the smell of dark, rich soil. I love to watch the seeds in the earth burst into living plants. I love swiftly lowering my hoe into the loam and stirring up the fertile nutrients. I love the salty sweat that trickles down my face. Life is good.

  173. I love fall best as well and can never get enough snow. The best things about summer? Kayaking, biking, and booming thunderstorms.

  174. Hi! Summer-ah, so many great memories of growing up by the sea~ I live in the south-right now-it is hot n' humid, but over all summer has this relaxed feeling I love. We are perhaps more at ease planning meals, the evening walks watching for a meteor shower and yes, thundershowers. I think of fireworks-smoke and loud booms-as people ooooh and ahhhhh under the glittered rain of color! Great post~

  175. My favorite thing about summer is picnics. The family gathered round a wooden picnic table in a park by a lake ... eating homemade potato salad (made first thing in the morning before the day gets too hot) and cold homemade chicken (or slices of ham if the cook is feeling a little lazy) ... served on a red and white check picnic tablecloth that's seen its way through a few dozen summer suppers. That feeling can only be had ... in summer.

  176. My favourite thing about summer: when it's blistering hot when they said it would be so on the weather forecast so one is prepared: wearing shorts and vest tops or dresses and it's hot, but it's a dry heat; the sun is shining and makes one utterly happy.

  177. I usually prefer spring to summer but we don't seem to be getting summer yet! The weather seems to still think it's April except that instead of showers we are getting downpours plus lots of thunder and lightening.

  178. Your summer there in Germany sounds wonderful and I think you have listed all that is great about summer! For me, the best part is gardening - or better yet, admiring the gardens :) Just walking around 'smelling the roses' is pure bliss to me! - Karen

  179. As gratitude lists go, this one is pretty complete and I couldn't agree more with just about every single one. I'm most grateful that I have a summer spot where I can retreat from the city, live life at my own pace and simply "be." It doesn't always come without challenges but they are all worth it. That and dips in the lake make summer a season I love. And great fruit!

    ReplyDelete
  180. Get this...finally being warm. The warmth on my skin, wearing NO socks, going barefoot, not having to wear a beanie, crickets, birds, and not having to work on Sunday as the library is closed Sunday's in the summer!!!! Yay!

  181. I am not a huge fan of summer either; HOWEVER, I teach, so I do enjoy getting a 2 month vacation.

  182. Hello Keith, thanks for the lovely comment you left me over on my blog about your cat Ruby Sue. They are funny when they bring us in those "little gifts" arent they. I love your blog & your post about summer time. We are in the depths of winter here in New Zealand at present & its wet, gloomy & cold but I am thankful for lots of firewood to burn. Like you, summer is not my favourite season but I guess my most favourite thing about it is summer salads to eat & my roses bloom well over the summer. They dont seem to mind the dry. Thanks again Keith, have a great week. Julie

    ReplyDelete
  183. This is such a wonderful list! I'm also not a fan of humidity, and I have to avoid peak sun hours. But I do enjoy outdoor summer events, and ice cream all year round.

  184. Baseball and ice cream are both on my list, too! Also on my list: gardening, barbecues with my family, driving up to the mountains to cool off, the slower pace all around. Thank you for visiting my blog, Keith. I'm happy I've found yours!

    ReplyDelete
  185. Wow! I am so honored that you visit my blog! You have so many followers and commenters....me....not so much! LOL! But then it is more for me to document my life than anything else and to find people with similar interests and likes and to learn from others and be inspired by others and maybe do a little inspiring myself. But I am with you about Fall and Winter! I too found myself looking forward to it already as my family comes in July/August for several weeks and they help me out with some chores and we have fun on the lake and cookouts but it is very hot here at that time. July and August here are like winter as you close the curtains, turn on the ac and stay indoors. In fact, if it was cold, I would be outside! This gal has no business being in the South! LOL!

I love the flowers and the fruit that grows on trees...the cherries...the peaches...strawberries...avocados...you get the picture.. Take care my friend

  190. My favorite thing about summer is the end of it. I don't like the hot weather. Yesterday our heat index was 109 degrees Fahrenheit. I prefer winter.

But my other favorite part of summer is the big, beautiful sunflowers.

Thanks for stopping by PS Annie! and commenting. Have a blessed week.
